The Crown Jewel Of Nutrition

Probably one of the healthiest single foods to eat is broccoli. It is a good source of vitamin A, potassium, folacin, iron and fiber. Most of us get our vitamin C from oranges and their juice. But one cup of cooked broccoli has as much vitamin C as an orange. Plus, ounce for ounce, broccoli has as much calcium as milk. It contains important phytochemicals and other nutritional agents that help prevent cancer causing substances from forming in the body.

How to Sit Properly

  • Keep your feet on the floor or on a footrest, if they don’t reach the floor.
  • Don’t cross your legs. Your ankles should be in front of your knees.
  • Keep a small gap between the back of your knees and the front of your seat.
  • Your knees should be at or below the level of your hips.
  • Adjust the backrest of your chair to support your low- and mid-back or use a back support.
  • Relax your shoulders and keep your forearms parallel to the ground.
  • Avoid sitting in the same position for long periods of time.

Lifting Tips

  • At all times, avoid twisting while lifting. Twisting is one of the most dangerous movements for your spine, especially while lifting.
  • If the item is too heavy to lift, pushing it is easier on your back than pulling it. Whenever possible, use your legs, not your back or upper body, to push the item.
  • If you must lift a heavy item, get someone to help you.

Back Pain

Walking upright on two feet has advantages, but it also puts intense pressure on the spine, as well as on other muscles and bones. Add to this improper sitting, lifting, or reaching—and the normal wear and tear of working and playing—and you have the perfect recipe for back pain. That’s why back pain is the second most common reason for visits to the doctor’s office, outnumbered only by upper-respiratory infections. In fact, some experts say, as many as 80% of us will experience a back problem at some time in our lives

Did You Know…

Did You Know….

That the chiropractic philosophy of staying well, as well as getting well by natural means, dates back to ancient Greece?

Holism, manipulation and natural healing all were emphasized by Hippocrates, the “father of medicine.” He said, “Nature must heal; the physician can only remove the obstruction” and “Get knowledge of the spine, for this is requisite to many diseases.”

Herodicus, a contemporary of Hippocrates was the first great drug-less healer and “father of kinesiology.” He conditioned athletes and ill people through therapeutic manipulation and exercise – and was so successful that Aristotle once complained: “He made old men young and prolonged their lives too greatly.”

Two thousand years later we, as chiropractors, treat to help and get well and stay well – with natural healing.
